Detailed Covid Re-entry Plan

Re-Entry Plan

Dear WGCS Families,

I am presenting this plan to our families to inform you of the steps we are taking to provide a safe start to the upcoming school year. We will explain the plan in the following pages; but I do want to address three questions that I’m hearing most often:

Q: Will masks be required?

A: The answer is “No”. You are certainly welcome to have your student wear one if you prefer.

Q: Will online learning be an option?

A: If WGCS is open, online learning will not be offered. If we are forced to close, we will transition to online learning

Q: What if there is a case of Covid-19 at school?

A: We will follow CDC guidelines if a student or staff member tests positive. The steps are described below. We will inform our families of what steps will be taken if multiple positive results are found.

While we anticipate a normal opening of the school year, we are daily watching the latest information being given regarding Covid-19. Let me assure you that we are taking all necessary precautions to provide a great school experience in a safe environment.

Communication will be key; so we will soon be providing information about the new WGCS app. I know that this tool will be a great help in keeping our families informed to the latest updates.

Plan of Action if Suspected Case of Covid-19 in WGCS
Step 1 Remove from classroom setting into an isolated space.
Step 2 The School Nurse will complete a health assessment.
Step 3 If a student, contact parent for immediate pick up.
Step 4 Provide guidance sheet for follow-up with medical provider.
Step 5 Deploy a Rapid Response Team for deep cleaning of area.

Re-Entry Planning

The Process

West Gate Christian School has established a re-entry task force committee which is working diligently to develop a re-entry strategy that allows for transparency and prioritizes the health and safety of our school community. WGCS is currently preparing the physical campus to support students in the fall of 2020, however if a stay-at-home order is issued WGCS is ready with an updated plan of action.

Per the recommendation of the WGCS re-entry task force committee and in accordance the FDOE recommendation, WGCS is able to execute the physical campus modifications needed to support student safety returning to campus in the fall of 2020.

Florida has lifted the school closure mandate.

On Campus LearningStudents will begin the 2020-2021 academic year on campus. In the event that local authorities close schools or initiate a stay-at-home order, students may transition to the WGCS Online Plan.

WGCS OnlineAdministration will evaluate the situation, and if deemed necessary, students will receive online instruction through teacher interaction.More Information Below

On Campus Learning

The administration of West Gate Christian School is preparing for on campus school operations to resume in the fall of 2020. WGCS will follow specific health precautions which will be in accordance with our local, state, and federal requirements to the best of our ability. Specific decisions regarding on campus modifications will be finalized over the next several weeks.

The standard drop-off and pick-up times will likely remain the same. Parents will be asked to not walk their student(s) into school building, but to remain in their vehicles and use the drop-off and pick-up lines only. Temperatures will be taken before entry.

WGCS’s participation in athletics will be determined by guidance provided by SSACS and our task force.

Elective choices and some after school activities may be altered or suspended for the 2020 – 2021 school year.

Preparing For Interruptions

Following the recommendations from our re-entry task force committee and trends from past pandemics, WGCS is preparing for possible interruption to on campus learning. In the event our local community experiences a spike in COVID-19 cases and an interruption of physical operations occurs, a shift to WGCS Online will happen immediately. You will be notified if this occurs.

WGCS Online

WGCS Online does not change our mission to provide a Christ-centered education that will prepare them for a lifetime of Biblical service.
